Nic Blackwell

Counsellor, Coach & Clinical Supervisor · BACP

Nic is a registered member of the BACP with a long-standing career in counselling, coaching and supervision, having worked in practice since 1992. He holds a Master's Degree in the Theory and Practice of Counselling, a Diploma in Interpersonal and Counselling Skills, and a Diploma in Coaching, all from the University of Warwick, and has been a qualified supervisor since 2002.

He works with adults across a broad range of emotional, behavioural, relational and addiction-related difficulties, offering counselling, coaching and clinical supervision, in person and online, across Coventry and Nuneaton.

Much of Nic's work centres on understanding the behavioural patterns and coping mechanisms we develop, the solutions that, over time, can turn damaging or self-destructive. He describes addiction as the solution gone wrong: a way of meeting a need that ends up causing harm. His focus is on emotional insight, self-awareness, and helping you understand the needs underneath compulsive behaviour, so you can move forward when you have felt stuck.

Addiction is a major part of his practice, supporting people struggling with alcohol, drugs, gambling, pornography, compulsive sexual behaviour and other behavioural addictions. He also works with family members affected by someone else's addiction, and with colleagues or friends concerned about another person's behaviour. His approach is grounded and experience-led, drawing on decades of sitting with difficult human behaviour.
