Aman Johal
Counsellor & Psychotherapist · BABCP Accredited
Aman is a BABCP-accredited Cognitive Behavioural Psychotherapist and a qualified EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing) practitioner. He works with adults, adolescents and children experiencing emotional distress, trauma, anxiety, depression and behavioural difficulties.
His experience spans NHS IAPT services, primary and secondary schools, work with Relate, and private practice. His approach is structured and clinically focused, with a strong emphasis on measurable change, coping strategies, emotional regulation and behavioural interventions rather than purely exploratory therapy. Aman helps clients understand their emotional distress, identify negative thought patterns, recognise the behavioural cycles that keep difficulties going, and build resilience.
He works collaboratively and his therapy process is clear and structured: an initial assessment and formulation, goal setting, psychoeducation, and tasks between sessions where helpful. Therapy may involve gently challenging the thoughts and behaviours linked to distressing events, so you can develop more balanced perspectives and reduce emotional suffering. Alongside his core CBT and EMDR practice, he has completed specialist training in suicidality and self-harm, motivational interviewing, solution-focused therapy and chronic pain management.
