Reiki (pronounced Ray Key) meaning Universal Lifeforce Energy, is the name given to a system of natural healing from the energies present in living things around us. Reiki is a wonderfully gentle and relaxing healing system thought to help the physical, mental, emotional & spiritual levels. It can be channeled through the four layers of our aura’s and into the body, through to our chakra’s (energy centres in the body), endocrine glands and organs.
Re-discovered in Japan by Dr Mikao Usui, (1865-1926), who had studied ancient Sanskrit texts and later followed a period of meditation for enlightenment, the rebirth of Reiki had begun. Today, Reiki is taught following an initiation into the healing system from master to student.
What might Reiki help with?
Often when we are unwell, we might place a hand to where we feel discomfort in the body and try to soothe the area. The principle with Reiki is quite similar in that it is mostly a hands on therapy with energies flowing to where they are most needed. Reiki is suitable for all from babies to the elderly. It can also be channeled to animals. For the terminally ill, Reiki may provide comfort and a sense of peace. Reiki can assist with spiritual, emotional and disorders of the bodily systems. It is also suitable through all stages of a pregnancy.
What to expect during your Reiki treatment...
The Reiki energies are channeled through to the receiver and flow to exactly where they are most required. Treatments are a combination of hands on & off, (above) the body treatments.
Crystals are also used during treatments to draw upon and utilise their unique healing energies.
Experiences to Reiki vary person to person, however the outcome is complete relaxation. Some clients doze and fall asleep, others may feel heat and notice wave like sensations. The experiences are individual and unique to each person. Reiki treatments are carried out with the client fully clothed.
