About Teresa Young mbacp
Counsellor & Psychotherapist
What I can offer you
As a person centred counsellor I believe that the relationship created between us is fundamental to the healing process and my commitment to you is to always listen with acceptance and empathy.
Talking with a therapist helps create resilience and a new relationship with oneself. I will not apply techniques or strategies in an attempt to ‘fix’ you; I will support and facilitate your exploration, to help you increase in confidence and build faith in your own abilities and internal resources.
You may judge yourself on the expectations of others or build coping mechanisms in order to survive; but ultimately you know that this may create more hurt and leave you with an overwhelming sense of failure and deep isolation.
So, whatever your reason for reading my profile today, I am here to support you. I understand what it feels like to be taught to minimise my experience, to just get on with it and try to forget. I also know the power of seeking support from a person outside of your experience, a therapist who offers the right conditions so you can flourish and grow.
I have worked with men, women, families and young adults in a variety of different settings including charities that specialise in trauma, crisis lines, prisons and statutory services.
I offer specialised trauma therapy, either individually or in a group setting. supporting those in crisis and/or experiencing complex mental health conditions, including dealing with the stigma surrounding diagnoses.
I can offer individual or group supervision and have supported counsellors or those in training, prison officers, prisoner led initiatives and volunteers.
I have extensive experience in supporting survivors or perpetrators as they prepare for the painful journey of Restorative Justice.
I work closely with family members and offer therapeutic intervention so they can navigate the issues created by a loved one’s actions and decide what’s best for them moving forward.
Together we can uncover the painful and difficult feelings of loss, shame, guilt, anger, addiction, Isolation, identity, betrayal, fear or unwanted sexualised or violent thoughts and actions.
We can start to understand the hurt that is created, assess the damage and move forward free from the pain and trauma of your experience.
How can I help?
I understand that life can be filled with uncertainty and struggle. The relationship with ourselves or others can feel toxic and damaging and we can be stuck in a cycle that erodes our sense of who we are, our self-esteem and confidence.
But things can be different and together we can create a space in which you can reconnect, flourish and open the door to healing and self-discovery. You will have your voice heard and be valued, irrespective of any choices you might have made in the past.
Whilst I specialise in supporting people who have experienced any form of complex trauma and/or bereavement, radicalisation or those convicted of violent offences, I am completely committed and driven to support you with any difficulties you might be experiencing at this time.
You are the person that knows you best; you know the pain of your experience and what feels broken or lost.
